Whidbey Island Maritime Heritage Foundation

maritime heritage and sail tours on Whidbey Island

The docent program

Join WIMHF as a Docent on the Schooner SUVA

Serve as a docent while the SUVA is docked in Coupeville to share its history and encourage visitors to tour the cabins. These free dockside tours are often a visitor's first step toward becoming a passenger.

After the training sessions, an experienced host will guide you until you feel comfortable signing up for your own shifts. During the summer, we offer easy and fun two-hour shifts from Thursday through Sunday. This is the perfect role if you enjoy meeting people and sharing local maritime history or marine biology.

Interested volunteers please email  membership.schooner.suva@gmail.com

DOCENT TRAINING

Session One: Learn docent essentials, including procedures, ticketing, schedules, and ship history. Participants receive a free SUVA shirt, a reference pamphlet, and information on arranging a complimentary seasonal sail.

Session Two Onboard the SUVA: A walkthrough and tutorial session covering ship updates and historical notes for guests.
